“Not all speed is movement”

–TONI CADE BAMBARA

Toni was a writer, activist, professor and film-maker. The first book she edited and published, “The Black Woman: An Anthology,” voiced issues affecting African-American women of different classes and ages not addressed by the civil rights and women’s movements, which is cool because many black feminist and black nationalist feminist women disagreed on certain issues. Her book served as an important reminder that dialogue within a movement is positive when handled with care. Many also consider it the first book to bring to light the sexism that existed within the black nationalist movement.
